Common Instagram Mistakes (Part 2)
Post on November 03, 2021
As Instagram becomes one of the most used social media at the moment, it becomes increasingly important to learn how to utilize the platform as best as possible in order to not only reach the right audience for your business, but also to gain their trust and loyalty in the long run. To help you guys to do so, we have discussed 3 of the most common Instagram mistakes a few weeks back in part 1 (click here if you haven’t read it yet!). This time, we’re going to go through some more things people often overlook that actually can have a negative impact on your Instagram and even your business as a whole.
1. Inconsistent Branding
If you’re communicating to your customers through various medias, whether it be other social media, website, or even an offline store, then this point is something that you should watch out for. Always keep in mind that your Instagram account is only a part of your brand as a whole, which means it should still reflect the brand identity that you have established.
In order to do so, some elements such as brand name, logo, font, etc should remain exactly the same from one media to another. Meanwhile, other elements might need slight adjustment to suit the media that you’re communicating through. For example, since social media tend to have a more casual tone than traditional media, engaging with your customers in a more friendly and informal manner would help customers to feel comfortable with your brand rather than sticking to the overly formal mannerism. In general, make sure that you still create a common thread by having a similar visual style and consistent point of view can help create a strong and recognizable brand for your business.
2. Not Spell Checking
This point might sound like a small, silly, and even insignificant mistake. But trust us when we say, a little spelling or grammatical error can easily make a carefully crafted post into a sloppy one. An Instagram account filled with posts like those will make your business look unprofessional and can ended up turning away customers. Remember that once your business looks untrustworthy to them, then it’s highly unlikely for them to even revisit your Instagram again, not to mention considering a purchase. Quick proof-reading can help minimalized mistakes such as this while also making sure that your writing is easily understood and conveying your message clearly to your intended audience.
3. Not Engaging with Followers
As we’ve emphasized it several times before in our previous posts, Instagram is a social media. This indicates from the very beginning that it is not a 1-way-broadcast, but instead a 2-way-conversation with your customers. Building relationship with your followers are essential not only to gain their trust and sales but also to encourage long-term loyalty and support for your business. Responding to their feedback, whether it be words of support, questions, or even complains by replying kindly to their comments and DMs can result in a deeper bond and trust that can determine your business’ growth as well as success in the long run.
What we have discussed here is just a few of the many, many more common mistakes people can easily make while managing their Instagram. Therefore, although having a thriving Instagram account to support your business is definitely something that can be achieved, it often also requires a lot of hard work and persistence. Maintaining high quality and on-brand contents while still constantly engaging with your followers for a long period of time are essential in order to truly see your business’ growth through your Instagram account.
