What's New on Instagram?
Post on March 30, 2021
As with other established platforms, Instagram often comes up with new features to enhance user experience and keep things fresh. In doing so, a lot of people can easily become confused with all these new updates and miss out on the benefits that these new features can bring. Therefore, in this series, we’ll run through Instagram’s new features and keep you guys updated if there’s any more coming in the future!
1. Instagram Shop
This new feature is definitely for you who want to boost sales through your own e-commerce website! It provides a seamless transition from Instagram to website and simplifies the whole buying process, which would motivate users to shop even more.
With this feature, people can now see the product you’re selling from photos posted on your feed. By clicking the photo, a dot will appear signifying the product being sold and by the next click, users will be able to see further details such as product description and price. From then on, there’ll be a link to go to your own e-commerce website where people can quickly finish their purchase, therefore, reinforcing conversion from Instagram users. However, before actually using this feature, just make sure your e-commerce website is optimized for mobile as most if not all traffic from Instagram would be from mobile phones.
2. Instagram Guide
What first started as providing health and wellness resources to those who are struggling as the result of COVID-19, has now evolved into a new feature for Instagram. With Instagram Guide, Instagram now offers a space where people can create multiple ‘guides’, each containing a flow of posts, that people can scroll through. Each post can have longer written format, with their own title and explanation that others can read before scrolling on to the next post. This makes a perfect format for step-by-step information, lists, recommendations, and many more.
This opens up so many new ways for brands to add extra content and show-off their products a different way. From providing informational tips and tricks revolving your product, to telling a story of how your brand/product came to be, there’s just so many possibilities!
3. Instagram Filter
While Instagram has introduced filters in their Instagram Story a long time ago, what’s new is that people can now create their own filters that others can use. This is such a fun way to drive up engagement and interaction with your followers, as well as a really natural way to invite people to join in and sharing it to their own followers.
With easy-to-use filters that people are already familiar with, unique and creative custom filters can go a long way in generating some major buzz for your brand, and sometimes even going viral. That is why, this is such a great tool not only for building awareness, but also for further reinforcing your brand to existing customers. Additionally, utilizing new features such as this, will make your brand looks more approachable and fun, which is especially important for brands targeting younger demographics who use Instagram Stories regularly.
